How to Pack Fragile Items for Safe Courier Delivery in India

## Why Fragile Item Packaging is Different

Indian courier networks handle packages roughly. Packages are sorted mechanically, loaded into vans in bulk, and experience:

Drops from 1–2 feet height (sorting conveyor)

Compression (stacking)

Vibration (transit)

Your packaging must survive all three.

The Right Box Size

The box should allow 5cm clearance on all sides for cushioning material. Oversized boxes = items shift = breakage.

Inner Packaging Methods

Method 1: Bubble Wrap + Foam Corners

Best for: Ceramics, glass items, handicrafts

Wrap item in 2 layers of 2.5cm bubble wrap

Place foam corners on all edges

Fill remaining space with crumpled newspaper or air pillows

Method 2: Foam Insert

Best for: Electronics, phones, devices

Cut foam blocks to match item shape

Item sits snugly in foam cradle

Place foam block in box — no movement at all

Method 3: Double Boxing

Best for: Extremely fragile, high-value items

Inner box contains item with cushioning

Outer box contains inner box with additional buffer

Marking boxes as fragile gets mixed results with Indian couriers. It helps at premium courier level (Blue Dart). For standard ecommerce couriers, rely on packaging quality, not stickers.

Weigh Your Packaged Item

Couriers charge by actual weight or volumetric weight (whichever is higher). A box with padding adds significant weight — factor this into your pricing.
